Kennett Square Inn (163 words)
The Kennett Square Inn is located in the historic town of Kennett Square "known as the mushroom capital of the world" on settled by William Penn's quakers, the town figured prominently in the battle of the Brandywine.
Lord Howe landed his troops at Elkton Maryland and moved to Kennett Square where on the morning of the 9th of Sept. 1776 he split his army of British and Hessian troops - the Hessians under Knyphausen and the British under Lord Howe - to move against Washington at the historic battle of the Brandywine.
The battle proved to be a decisive victory for the British and forced Washington to retreat to Valley Forge during the bitter winter of 1776.
