Kevin Fennel was a frequent drummer for Guided by Voices between 1983-1996. He left the band somewhat acrimoniously in 1996 while suffering from various health problems. Though thought to have coined the phrase "Guided by Voices is the devil", supposedly sincerely, he had apparently reconciled enough to perform at the band's final Dayton, OH performance in 2004.
