Kewanna is a town located in Fulton County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 614.


Geography

Kewanna is located at 41°1'5" North, 86°24'46" West (41.018087, -86.412686)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 km˛ (0.5 mi˛). 1.3 km˛ (0.5 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 614 people, 269 households, and 157 families residing in the town. The population density is 455.9/km˛ (1,171.5/mi˛). There are 297 housing units at an average density of 220.5/km˛ (566.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 98.37% White, 0.33% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.33% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 269 households out of which 28.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.6% are non-families. 37.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.99.


In the town the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 102.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.0 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $22,292, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $31,607 versus $20,139 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,718. 13.0% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.9% of those under the age of 18 and 18.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
