King Savang Vatthana & Queen Khamphoui

Queen Khamphoui was born in Louang Phrabang, Laos, July 12, 1912.


On August 7, 1930, she married King Savang Vatthana and they had seven children, Crown Prince Vong Savang, Prince Sisavang, Prince Savang, Prince Sauryavong Savang, Princess Savivanh Savang, and Princess Thala Savang.


Her husband abdicated the throne on December 2, 1975, after the communist revolution and he died in an internment camp in northern Laos along with herself and their son Crown Prince Vong Savang died and died in a Communist re-education camp in northern Laos, probably around Sop Hao.

Mr Khamphoui, 62, is in poor health and is suffering from angina.
He is serving a 14-year sentence in a remote camp in conditions that are said to be extremely harsh.
But in 2001, having failed to obtain the co-operation of the Government of Laos, the Committee decided to break with its usual procedure and discuss Mr Khamphoui's case in public.
