How does one explain Kharan to one who has never lived within our lands, who has never seen our two moons, who has never heard the bellowing roar of an orkon? ~ Thodon, historian and chronicler of the people of Kharan.

Part 1: Beginnings

In the beginning there was nothing; not even time. With a brilliant flash, the Energy came into being, giving the four original gods the power to create the universe. The four gods: Deoyus Piter, Gwidno, Tekka Miter, and Merlan all worked together to create the universe. Gwidno and his wife Merlan were content with this universe, but to Deoyus Piter and his wife Tekka Miter, it seemed empty. From one end of the universe to the other, no life existed, save that of the four great dieties. Working in secret, Deoyus Piter created the forms of many creatures, and his wife Tekka Miter supplied them with life. Many life forms existed, but only one species was given the gift of intelligence, and even a small amount of control of the Energy. This one form of life was immortal; incapable of being destroyed by anything short of a god. Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter would often spend time secretly among their hidden creation of life, afraid that Gwidno and Merlan might wish it harm. Gwidno and Merlan began to notice that Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter would often strangely disappear. One day, Gwidno made up his mind to follow his older brother stealthfully. The moment Gwidno viewed his brother's creation, he was filled with jealousy and hatred towards it. Angrily, Gwidno returned to his home, telling his wife Merlan what he had learned. Together they plotted to destroy this life. Waiting for Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter to return home, they sneaked back to earth, killing much of the life. Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter could hear their creations' screams and rushed towards earth in order to save them. A great battle followed, causing much destruction. At last, Deoyus Piter triumphed over his brother Gwidno, holding his sword against Gwidno's neck. He was about to kill Gwidno, when Tekka Miter called out, "Wait! He is your brother, and at the end of time shall turn from his evil ways! You must not kill him; you must instead weaken him until he will use the Energy for good again."

Deoyus Piter reluctantly heeded his wife's advice, greatly weakening both Gwidno and Merlan so they could never again be a threat to all life. As a final punishment, Deoyus Piter banished both from the realm of the gods. Life had been saved, but at a great cost; it was no longer immortal. Now death, sickness, and corruption plauged this life. It mutated into many different races, all of which greatly hated one another. Gwidno and Merlan thought themselves victorious in this way, but they had been fooled, for earth was not the only planet with such life; a second such world existed, one by the name of Aratar. The people of Aratar were more primitive than earth, and were mortal as a result of Gwidno and Merlan's power, but were relatively peaceful. However, that all changed when a capsule of metal carried a man across the stars from earth to Aratar. The passenger; a man by the name of Novgoda was taken to be a god by the people of Aratar. Novgoda married many women on Aratar and had a vast number of descendants; they made up the civilized people; or Adon as they called themselves. The others descended into technological darkness, and became known by the generic term of "barbarians". For years the people of Adon were plauged by raids from their barbarian cousins, until at last they built up an army sufficient for their defense. Soon the barbarian raids could be stopped, but the soldiers soon became restless. In result, the king ordered them to go and take the fight back to the barbarians. The campaign was a great success, and soon most of the violent tribes of barbarians were enslaved; only a the peaceful tribes remained. Adon gained much land in this time, and became the greatest power on Aratar. It was the golden age of Adon, and would last for over a millenia.

Part 2: Civil War

In the sixteenth year of the reign of King Lodon, the 251st King after Novgoda, civil war was at hand. Early in his rule, Lodon had declared the Asraka enemies of the state and began a genocidal campain to kill them all off. The couple of Zeron and Lagia, and their three children were considered the most "traitorous" of the Asraka, and thus were condemned to public execution.

The day before their execution, however, a young palace servant girl managed to help Zeron and Lagia's youngest son; 4 year old Ragoris; escape. Enraged, Lodon ordered that Zeron and Lagia, and their other two children be executed immediately and offered a vast reward for the capture of Ragoris, dead or alive.

Ragoris, however, escaped with his life, growing up on the streets for a year, until a kind-hearted veteran took him in. Ragoris had no direct memory of his past, but was often plauged by troubling visions of it. Taken into the barracks by Grand General Potor, Ragoris received training alongside the soldiers at a young age. Because of his innate Energy abilities, Ragoris soon surpassed all other new recruits, standing out for his great skill in combat, at the young age of six. By the age of sixteen, he was promoted to the rank of General. Shortly after his twentieth birthday, he succeeded Potor to the position of Grand General, following Potor's mysterious death.

Meanwhile, back at the palace, more trouble was brewing. All throughout his rule, Lodon's mind had not been his own; he was literally being controlled by his corrupt advisor Thenecloris. Zeron was in fact Thenecloris's own illegitimate son, whom Thenecloris had executed in order to further his own plans. Taking the alias of "Dagon", Thenecloris came to Ragoris, revealing his past to him, and correctly claiming to be his grandfather, though speaking nothing of his position as advisor to the King.

Heeding his grandfather's advice, Ragoris went on to frequent the palace courts, looking for others to help him in his plan to assassinate Lodon. There, he met Nekima, the now grown up servant girl who had helped him to escape death all those years ago. As the two lone survivors of the genocide of the Asraka, they hoped that once Lodon was dead that the Asraka would be allowed to exist once more.

Ultimately victorious in his goal, Ragoris managed to assassinate King Lodon approimately a month later. Revealing his victory to his grandfather, Thenecloris finally revealed the truth to Ragoris, stating how Ragoris was merely a pawn in his plan to remove the King from power and kill all the Asraka who would have otherwise stood in his way.

Siezing all power, Thenecloris now directly ruled, but the imprisoned Ragoris and Nekima were determined not to give up that easily. Using their abilities, they broke out of prison, and led a new rebellion against Thenecloris; telling peasants and royalists alike about Thenecloris's evil deeds.

This rebellion came to be known as the Eva' Rag, or "followers of Ragoris" in the old tongue. Sadly, for the people of Adon, the Eva' Rag were unsuccessful. Just weeks after organizing the Eva' Rag organization, Ragoris and Nekima were captured and burned in public view at the executional stakes, with 10,000 Royal Guard standing by to make sure that the Eva' Rag couldn't save their leaders from their "just" fate.

Just before he was executed, Ragoris uttered his famous last words, the first known prophecy of the Dosdepnos:

"Loyal followers of freedom, do not consider my death to be a tragedy. Instead, my spirit shall pass into the heights of Trekor's upper branches. Nekima and I will return to Adon one day in the far future, when the Ultimate Fight is upon us all. Never fear, for freedom shall rule in the end.

To this day, Kharan consider Ragoris and Nekima to be two of the great leaders who shall return to Adon shortly before the Dosdepnos, along with Andoris, Melotra, Nozag, Etron, and many others.

 Andoris ... LMAO

Part 3: Death and New Life

Following their leaders' deaths, the Eva' Rag knew they would have no chance of success against Thenecloris any longer. Sadly, they left their home of Adon forever, going far into the west, where they formed a new nation. Thenecloris was more evil than Lodon had ever been, for he was now ruling directly. Any who spoke out against him were instantly put to death without a trial.

Yet, there was hope again for Adon. Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter sent a Latreigk (a spiritual being, inferior to a god, but more powerful than a mortal) named Widoris to Adon in the form of a mortal man. Wearing a white hooded cloak, Widoris made his way to the capital Palace. He was taken to the Throne Room by a guard, where he was expected to bow before Thenecloris. Instead, he defiantly stayed standing and said, "Your reign of terror ends today, Thenecloris."

Instantly, the royal guards came charging towards him with their weapons drawn, but Widoris quickly cast off his cloak, revealing his garments with the symbol of Deoyus Piter and Tekka Miter. In shock, the guards stopped in their tracks, but at Thenecloris's command began to charge at Widoris again. As a Temporal Latreigk, Widoris had great powers over time. Creating a depression in the fourth dimension, he literally stopped time for all mortal beings.

As Thenecloris was in fact once an Asraka that went corrupt, he was uneffected by such, but his guards could no longer aid him. The accounts from this point on regarding the battle between Widoris and Thenecloris become quite sketchy as the only two witnesses (Widoris and Thenecloris) spoke very little of such. It is known however, that Widoris overcame Thenecloris, and banished him from Adon forever. Begrudgingly, Thenecloris agreed.

Restoring the flow of time, Widoris revealed to the astonished Royal Guards that their master was now dead. Dropping their weapons in fear, the guards begged for their lives. Widoris held his hands upward in the sign of peace; he meant them no harm, for they were never fighting him of their own free will.

News quickly spread of what had happened, and the people wished to make Widoris the new King, but Widoris refused their offer. His mission was to fight the forces of Gwidno and Merlan, not to rule a kingdom in Adon. Instead, he appointed Tomoris, the closest living relative of Lodon; who, unlike his infamous relative, was in fact a very good ruler. Under his rule, Adon became to be known as Nostor; the Old Tongue for "The True Kingdom".

Part 4: New Unity

After being banished from Adon, Thenecloris made his way to the west. By terrible fate, he found the struggling Eva' Rag nation. Under the alias of Dagon once more, he sought to sieze power here. He knew these people would not accept him as their king, but freedom was dear to them. Gwidno revealed that it had in fact been democracy, and the corruption that it always brings, that had destroyed earth in the past.

Using his powers to control the minds of the majority, he formed the first democracy on Adon, in which he reigned supreme, always bending the minds of the populace to his will. For over a thousand years, Dagon reigned, keeping his physical body alive by draining life from "disloyal" subjects.

Around a thousand years after siezing power in the Eva' Rag Nation, Dagon had a daughter, for Gwidno had revealed to him that he would soon be returning to the roots of Trekor. Dagon thought that with a daughter, he could choose his successor himself, by choosing her husband.

By this time, Nostor once more had a corrupt king. He didn't oppress his people as Thenecloris had, but instead was a weak and cowardly king. Realizing this, Dagon planned to invade Nostor in order to have his revenge on them for what they had done to him.

Sending a messenger to Paxoris, the current king of Nostor, Dagon offered to spare Paxoris's life if he gave no resistance to Eva' Rag's invasion of Nostor. The cowardly King agreed. Weeks later, the Eva' Rag armies arrived at Nostor's borders. To the shock of all, nothing was done to stop them.

All hope seemed lost, but a spark of light remained. By this time, Widoris's physical body was quite old, and much of his past acheivements forgotten; by many he was considered a crazy old man; but he lived on. Though his physical body died in the process, he managed to help Andoris; the nephew of Paxoris and Duke of the Northern Cliff States; and his bodyguard Nozag; originally an Eva' Rag, enslaved by the barbarians and eventually sold to the Nostorans; escape with their lives and took them to the temple of Moghis, where they could be transported back in time.

Going back approximately a year, within the Eva' Rag capital city of Ragoppid, Widoris, Andoris, and Nozag began their mission to stop Dagon before he destroyed all of Adon, as earth had been destroyed millenia ago. Surprisingly, they found themselves aided by Melotra, Dagon's own daughter. Melotra had seen how evil her father was, and was determined that he had to be stopped.

Using her access to the palace, Melotra helped sneak Widoris and the two Nostorans in. In the insuing battle, Widoris managed to use his powers to freeze time for all but those with control over the Energy (himself, Andoris, Melotra, Nozag, and Dagon). In the final confrontation, Widoris gave much of his elemental energy to Andoris, Melotra explained to him her father's one weakness; for, as evil as her father was, she could never bring herself to kill him.

In the final confrontation, Andoris had to fight Dagon on three levels. First a physical battle, in which he received many injuries, but finally overcame Dagon's power. Next, came a spiritual battle, in which he used his elemental powers to fight Dagon's elemental powers of evil. Finally, came a philosophical confrontation, where Andoris had to convince Dagon to finally let go.

Remember what Melotra had told him, Andoris reminded Dagon that he had once been a good person, and there was still a tiny amount of good in him; even if he had surrendered himself to Gwidno in exchange for power. Finally, he reminded Dagon that his quest for power would destroy ALL life, including that of his daughter. Deeply moved by Andoris's words, Dagon relinquished the dark power that Gwidno had given him. Though his body was now rapidly wasting away before Andoris's and Melotra's eyes, his soul was at last free.

Dagon died a good man in the end, with his daughter crying over him. This would seem a great victory for all, but darkness would not relinquish its control so easily. Though Dagon no longer lived, his general did. The most ambitious and evil of these, a man by the name of Henterin, seized all power in Ragoppid after Dagon's death, declaring Melotra a "traitor" and "murderer".

Melotra and her few loyal followers, along with Andoris, Widoris, and Nozag were forced to retreat out of the city. Engaging in guerilla-style warfare, they at last managed to recapture the city, but at a heavy cost. Many civilians and most of Melotra's guards were killed in the insuing battle. At last, however, the war came to an end. Henterin was placed under arrest for his crimes, and finally executed by Nozag himself; whom Henterin had sold into slavery all those years ago by his treachery.

But there was one last battle to fight. Returning to Nostor, Widoris, Andoris, Melotra, and Nozag still had to remove Paxoris from power for his traitorous ways to his people. Paxoris declared the company traitors, since a member of the Eva' Rag traveled with them. Once again, they were vastly outnumbered, but at least now the Northern Cliff States were loyal to Andoris and his allies. Against great odds, they managed to at last free all of Nostor from Paxoris's power.

Since Paxoris had done nothing himself yet (because they had travelled back in time to prevent it), they had no real charges to have him executed under Nostoran law. Thus, he was locked in prison. As a relatively cowardly man, he never attempted to escape. At last both kingdoms of Adon were once more free.

Uniting the two kingdoms, Andoris and Melotra were married under the ancient rituals of unification. Yet, this unification was much more than between two individuals; since both were the heir to their nation's throne, it represented the union of their two nations as well. From this union, the nation of Kharan; the Old Tongue for "Union"; was born.

Tensions existed between the Eva' Rag and Nostorans continued for generations, but at last the two were finally united. Kharan is now the largest known nation on Adon.

On Earth as it is in Hell - Epilogue (1892 words)
Threading his way through empty amp cases and bustling roadies, Kharan made his way to a staircase in the back and descended into the theater's basement, the roar of the concert muffled to the dull thuds of the bass.
Kharan rubbed his arms, wishing he had brought a jacket despite his superhuman tolerances for heat and cold.
Kharan leaned back against a pile of shattered bricks, look for all the world as if he was basking while attending a picnic in the sun.
