Encyclopedia > Khorne (Warhammer 40,000)

In the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000, Khorne is the Chaos god of hate, bloodshed and war. The World Eaters Chaos Space Marines are dedicated to him and his cause: the death of every living thing. Every act of killing gives Khorne power; the more senseless and destructive, the better. Khorne's daemons are Bloodthirsters and Bloodletters. His opposite is Slaanesh, who is more calculating and subtle than Khorne's "Kill everything" doctrine. Khorne is viewed as the mightiest of the four great Chaos powers.

However, it must be noted that Khorne's followers seek not to cause pain - pain is the domain of Slaanesh, as is pleasure. They wish only to kill, because while the blood of their victims strenghtens Khorne, their suffering empowers his nemesis.

Khorne himself is seen as a mighty being, clad in bronze armor, sitting atop a mighty throne of skulls standing in a sea of blood - made up of every skull his followers take and every droplet of blood they spill.

The Chaos Gods span both the universe of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. In Warhammer 40k, the Eldar god Khaela Mensha Khaine was smashed into fragments by Slaanesh, allowing Khorne to take over the roll of that god in the Warhammer Fantasy universe.

Quotes

  • "Blood for the Blood God!"

"Skulls for the throne of Khorne!" "Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows, only that it flows."

Battlecry of the followers of Khorne: 'Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Throne of Skulls!'

Warhammer 40,000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1999 words)
Warhammer 40,000 is the science fiction companion to Warhammer Fantasy.
The central and most popular elements of the Warhammer 40,000 universe are the Space Marines, anachronistic combinations of sci-fi super-soldiers and fantasy knights and the finest warriors of the Imperium of Mankind, a dystopian and degenerate galaxy-spanning empire.
The strongest of these entities are the Chaos Gods, Khorne (a god of rage, bloodshed and war), Nurgle (a god of despair and decay), Tzeentch (a god of change, deception, scheming and magic) and Slaanesh (a god of pleasure, pain, depravity and decadence).
Khorne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (547 words)
In the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy, Khorne is the Chaos god of rage, blood, hate and war.
Khorne's daemonic number is eight, favors red, brass and fl, and abhors magic and psychic powers.
Within the Chaos pantheon, Khorne's antithesis is Slaanesh; Khorne seeks the mindless slaughter of mortals, while Slaanesh's followers desire the pleasure of the experience of killing.
