Its economy is largely based on agriculture with vast ricefields surrounding the municipality. Aqua-culture is the second biggest income earner, notably the culture of milkfish (bangus) and shrimps (locally called "sugpo" or "lukon") for export.


Technology

Although it can be considered a "remote" town its population enjoys reliable communication facilities brought by advances in cellphone technology. A modern highway connects it to major towns and cities.


People

The majority of the population are of Ilocano origin. One of the indigenous peoples living in mountainous areas of Kiamba is known as T'boli.

Sarangani is a province of the Philippines located in the SOCCSKSARGEN region in Mindanao.
The province is divided into two parts, separated by the Sarangani Bay, and it used to be part of South Cotabato until it was made an independent province in 1992.
Sarangani is subdivided into 7 municipalities grouped into two parts, separated by the Sarangani Bay.

The Maguindanaos are settled in the municipalities of Malapatan, Maitum, and Maasim; Tbolis reside mostly in Maitum, Kiamba, and Maasim while Tagakaolos subsist entirely in Malungon.
Thus, Sarangani’s mixed population of Cebuano-speaking Blaans and Muslims in the east coast, Ilocano-speaking Tbolis, Manobos and Muslims in the west coast, and Ilonggo-speaking Blaans and Kaolos in the north uplands, is unique and in harmony.
There are 79,911 estimated number of households in Sarangani with 70 percent residing in rural areas and 30 percent in urban.
