Encyclopedia > Kian Alvane

Kian Alvane is a character from the computer game Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Kian is an Azadi, living in their holy city of Sadir. He has pledged his life to the Six and the Goddess. When the game begins he is sent to Marcuria to kill a resistance leader who is known as "The Scorpion" and who is, in fact, April Ryan. Kian sees no difference between servicing the Six, the Empresses of the Azadi, and servicing the Goddess. Something Kian's mentor and father figure, Garmon Koumas, finds worrying. Before Kian leaves for Marcuria Garmon advices Kian to do what he (Kian) believes is right and not what others tell him is right. After arriving in Marcuria Kian is brot to the Tower, the Azadi office in Marcuria, and the Emissary. There he meats an old rival, Vamon. Vamon dislikes Kian because Kian is from a lower cast, meaning has no family and no blood. Vamon also dislikes that Kian has risen fast through the ranks, and is convinced that "someone inside the Sixed circle holds his hand". Vamon is assigned, by the Emissary, to keep an eye on Kian while he attempts to track down the Scorpion. Kian manages to track down a Zhid, who's been in contact with the rebels. But just as he is about to interrogate him a soldier shows up and tell Kian that they've caught a rebel witch. Kian goes to Friar's Keep to interrogate the witch instead. The witch turns out to be Zoë. Zoë tells Kian she's not a witch, and was just sent to Marcuria by someone else. He believes her and tries to get the warden to release her, but the warden dismisses him. On his way from Friar's Keep Kian meats April and the two of them get into a heated discussion about the Azadi. The discussion ends with Kian being impressed with April's passioned feelings and honesty. He attempts to get her into further discussion, but she (politely) dismisses him. Next time we see Kian he has found out that The Journey Man is the headquarters of the rebels and threatens Na'ane into helping him find the Scorpion. But instead of finding a male rebel leader, like he was expecting, he finds April. Kian explains to her that she and the things he have seen in Marcuria has convinced him that the Azadi doesn't have a right to push their religion on others and to harass the magicals. April Ryan on the cover of The Longest Journey April Ryan is a fictional character from the best-selling and award-winning adventure game The Longest Journey (2000) and its sequel Dreamfall (2006). ...
