In the poor areas on the outskirts of the city, such as Kimbanseke, the cuts in water supply are frequent and the pressure is often inadequate.
The residents of the outer suburb of Ngandu have to make long trips on foot to get drinking water, sometimes at night, to areas on the main water pipeline connecting the airport, where 25 litres of water is sold for 40 Congolese francs (10 US cents), explained Nzumba, a mother of seven children.
Typhoid has reappeared in Kimbanseke, but the water from the local authority has not, so MSF has launched a campaign of water distribution in six suburbs of this poverty stricken area.
Kimbanseke and N'Djili belong to the so-called 'communes excentriques', which are furthest from the city center.
The centre will be located in the densely populated commune of N'Djili, on the border with Kimbanseke, which includes some of the poorest neighborhoods in Kinshasa.
In addition to seeking funds for this project, CAF Belgium is serving as a quality/accountability review board for the CCLN centre and micro-business.
