Kinde is a village in Huron County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 534.


The village is located on the boundary between Dwight Township and Lincoln Township, with about half of the village in both. A small portion of the village is within Meade Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 534 people, 209 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density is 204.1/km² (530.2/mi²). There are 226 housing units at an average density of 86.4/km² (224.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.19% White, 0.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. 0.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 209 households out of which 36.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.10.


In the village the population is spread out with 29.6% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $29,125, and the median income for a family is $34,107. Males have a median income of $27,708 versus $14,167 for females. The per capita income for the village is $12,623. 14.6% of the population and 12.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.8% of those under the age of 18 and 9.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

In Michigan, Kirkpatrick was chair of the Michigan Dairy Industry Committee and a member of the United Dairy Industry of Michigan board of directors.
He was a long time member of the Michigan State Fair Board, formerly served on the Michigan Agriculture Commission and was a past director of the First of America Bank – Michigan.
