King Seonjo ruled in Korea between 1567 and 1608.At first, King Seonjo was a good king who loved the people, but in later years, he was a greedy king. During King Seonjo's reign, the Japanese general Hideyoshi Toyotomi tried in 1592 to conquer Korea. He was the second son of KingSeonjo.
Since he realized Joseon was unable to compete with the Manchu military power, he tried to keep friendly relationship with the Manchus, while the kingdom was still under the suzerainty of Ming, which angered Ming and dogmatic Confucist Koreans.
