The Canyon: Kings Canyon is similar to the Yosemite and Zion National Parks as the central attraction is a deep valley accessible from one end only, surrounded by huge areas of back-country that most people never visit.
Kings Canyon Valley: Cedar Grove is a small village on flat land next to the Kings River, 2 miles into the national park, and has four large campgrounds and various other facilities including the main visitor center.
The canyon narrows gradually, but the paved road CA 180 ends when the floor is still quite wide, perhaps to prevent damage to the flat meadows and marshy areas that line the river.
