The Kings of Dublin, or Dyflin. Dyflin was the name given by the Norse or Ostman to much of what is now Co. Dublin, which was among the earliest territories they settled in Ireland. Its rulers were often co-kings, and on occasion also kings of York (Jorvik) in what is now England. About the middle of the 11th century, the city came under the dominion of the Kings of Leinster and later the High Kings of Ireland. Though the last Norse king of Dublin was killed by the Normans in 1171, the population of the city retained their distinctiveness based on their origins for some further generations.
