Kinrooi is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1st, 2005 Kinrooi had a total population of 11,997. The total area is 54.76 km² which gives a population density of 219.06 inhabitants per km². This municipality contains five villages. Namely: Molenbeersel, Kinrooi, Kessenich, Geistingen and Ophoven. On the 18th of September 1971 the five little villages (Molenbeersel, Kinrooi, Kessenich, Geistingen and Ophoven) fused and became the municipality Kinrooi. Since then there have been 3 mayor's. The current mayor is Hubert Brouns.


Economy:


Kinrooi's main economic activities are agriculture, tourism and the reclamation of gravel, sand and loam. The downside of the reclamation of gravel, sand and loam is that a lot of land surface get's lost.


Tourism:


Kinrooi attracts a lot of tourists because it has 7 nature reserves that harbor rare animal & plant species, it has a marina and because it has several old windmills.
