Local government
Whilst Kirklevington is historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, in 1974 it became part of the borough of Stockton-on-Tees in the new non-metropolitan county of Cleveland, which was established by the Local Government Act 1972. In 1996 Cleveland was abolished and Stockton-on-Tees became a unitary authority.
