Kitty Winn was born in Washington D.C. and spent much of her childhood time traveling to China, India, and Japan. She made her Broadway debut in 1959 in "The Three Sisters" and won the Golden Palm Award at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival for her role of opposite Al Pacino in The Panic in Needle Park (1971). She also starred in Hamlet for New York's Shakespeare in the Park. She created the great role of Sharon in the Academy Award winning motion picture The Exorcist (1973) and in Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). Her last film was Mirrors (1978), portraying a lead role of Marriane who has been cursed. She currently does Broadway work. Shakespeare's tragedy of mistaken love, deceit, betrayal, jealousy and murder, King Lear centres on the aging monarch of Britain, who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, determined by their expressions of love for him.
Having relinquished his throne, Lear becomes the object of ridicule and betrayal by Goneril and Regan, climaxing in the murder of Cordelia and the tragic death of Lear unable to contain his grief.
Note that Kitty Winn is playing a vastly different part than as Helen in The Panic in Needle Park with Al Pacino.
