Knobel is a town located in Clay County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 358.

Knobel is located at 36°19'10" North, 90°36'6" West (36.319360, -90.601780)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 358 people, 144 households, and 101 families residing in the town. The population density is 329.1/km˛ (860.1/mi˛). There are 156 housing units at an average density of 143.4/km˛ (374.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 97.77% White, 0.56% Black or African American, 1.68% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 2.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 144 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.95.


In the town the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 103.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.6 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $18,750, and the median income for a family is $32,000. Males have a median income of $21,705 versus $15,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,624. 25.2% of the population and 20.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.6% of those under the age of 18 and 36.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Knobel is a small town in the North East corner of Arkansas in Clay County.
The earliest record of a settler in or near what was later to become Knobel is that of J.H Allen who settled on a piece of land two miles west and began farming it in 1866.
Knobel really had its beginning in the early 1870's when the railroad was being laid.
