Kobayashi (小林市; -shi) is a city located in [[Miyazaki Prefecture|Miyazaki]], Japan.


As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 39,628 and the density of 171.73 persons per kmē. The total area is 230.76 kmē.


The city was founded on April 1, 1950.

On January 1, 2006 the towns of Takajo, Takazaki, Yamada and Yamanokuchi from Kitamorokata District merged with the city of Miyakonojo to form the new city of Miyakonojo.
On January 1, 2006 the towns of Tano and Sadowara from Miyazaki District and the town of Takaoka from Higashimorokata District merged into the city of Miyazaki.
On March 20, 2006 the village of Suki from Nishimorokata District merged with the city of Kobayashi to form the new city of Kobayashi.
