Oita Prefecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (390 words)
Oita Prefecture is located on the north-eastern coast of the island of Kyushu.
Surrounded by the Suo Channel and Honshu Island to the north, the Iyo Channel and Shikoku Island to the east, it is bordered by Miyazaki Prefecture to the south, and Fukuoka Prefecture and Kumamoto Prefecture to the west.
Oita Prefecture is famous for its hot springs, particularly those in and around the city of Beppu, known as the 'hells', or jigoku.
Hot Springs (631 words)
Oita residents have been close to hot springs from time immemorial, a fact made clear by a historical account of hot and mineral springs in the "Bungo Fudoki (Oita Regional Topography)" that was edited during the Nara Era.
In Oita, the magma sources are the new volcanoes of Tsurumi, Yufu and Kuju ranging from east to west at the center of the prefecture.
That is to say, Oita's hot springs not only boast of a large number of spring sources and high output of springs, but also of a quantity of high temperature springs and a variety of water quality.
