Encyclopedia > Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino

The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (Commission on the Filipino Language) is the official regulating body of the Filipino language. It was established in accord with the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines. 1987 (MCMLXXXVII) was a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar. ... The Constitution of the Philippines (Saligang Batas ng Pilipinas in Filipino) is the supreme law of the Philippines. ...

One major criticism of the Komisyon is that it does not really do its job in preserving and developing the Filipino language. This is grounded in the fact that Filipino, to this day, has - according to some people - an impoverished vocabulary which relies heavily on foreign borrowings (and often, constructions).
