Kant was born in Amritsar. He took part in the Indian independence movement as a youth and continued to be involved in politics, eventually being elected to Parliament. He served as governor of Andhra Pradesh from 1990 to 1997, becoming one of India's longest-serving governors. He was elected vice-president by Parliament as the joint candidate of the Indian National Congress and United Front. He died in New Delhi. Krishan Kant, a true Gandhian, a follower of teachings of swami vivekanand, is a role model for youth of India. He always advocated pubity in public life. His untimely death came as a big blow to youth in India.


Being a Scientist he took a active interest in development of education facilities in country. He always adviced appoint of Vice Chancellors and Faculty in universities, in a fair and just manner. He adviced to allocate a appropriate chunk of GDP to education development.


He was disturbed by decadence of values in social life. Politicians unconcerened about morality, so many corrruption incidents and scams. He felt politicians think "Nothing is lost if character is lost." He was confident tht India will recover from this phase and life of the common man will be better off.


India being a democracy, He always adviced people to elect good people to offices. Dont vote for womanisers, Drunkards and Corrupt. If masses can send 300 good peoplke to Indian parliament that in itself will be a revolution.


He used to talk to common Indians and get their views. Woman in Andhra Pradesh were very happy when prohibition was imposed there. As their husband's use to spoil all money on liquor and milk was not available to children. He worked for development of Andhra Pradesh. I stayed in Hyderabad, Capital of Andhra Pradesh for two years. People remember him very fondly. He was a saint, they say.


I was about to leave for office around 9 AM that morning, i saw a TV flash that Mr. Vice President is no more. I felt shoicked but his divine presence will always remain with every true Indian.
