Kubrick is a product line by Japanese toy company MediCom Toy inc. The figures come in a few different scales: 100% (6 cm tall), 400%, and 1000%. The name "Kubrick" comes from a combination of "cool" and "brick" and is named in honor of the filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. The name "Kubrick" also comes from the combination of the Japanese character "ku" (or the number 9) and the English word "brick". The "ku" (number 9) derives from the number of pieces that make up a standard Kubrick. The nine pieces refer to the head, torso, hips/crotch, two hands, two arms and two legs. The logo was inspired by the poster for Kubrick’s film "A Clockwork Orange". Stanley Kubrick (July 26, 1928âMarch 7, 1999) was an American film director and producer, generally considered one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers of his generation. ...

Packaging and Price Kubricks are packaged in a variety of ways. The most common are "blind box" packs in which figures are randomly packed individually in small boxes. Kubricks are usually sold randomly packed together in either cases of 12 or 24. Some figures in the series would be more common and easier to find. In addition to the common figures in an assortment, there are chase figures that are not listed at all on the box or announced on the MediCom website. Finally, there are extremely rare ones that are found in 1:48 and 1:96 ratios. Typically, the value of these rare figures are based on demand and popularity. But many of these chase figures typically start at $50USD or more depending on the seller. The actual value of Kubricks are never set and so retailers and sellers on auction sites like eBay have been able to price Kubricks at various prices at their choosing. The value of the rare Kubricks has led to counterfeit/bootleg versions of those same figures (often with poor quality plastic and painting). Other ways in which Kubricks are packaged for sale are in identifiable small boxes, blister cards, window boxes and (the least common) plastic baggies. This article is becoming very long. ...
Distribution While Kubricks have captured the interest of collectors from all over the world, the company has focused primarily on the Japanese market. MediCom's online store will ship only to Japanese residents and many Kubricks created as promotional items are sold exclusively in Japanese theaters/shops or included as preorder bonuses for various tie-ins which include movies, video games, mangas and magazines. Such examples include the Wolverine Kubrick made for the X-Men 2 movie or the Master Chief Kubrick made as a preorder bonus for the Halo 2 video game in Japan. Due to this exclusivity to Japan, the only way to obtain Kubricks is through online import stores, specialty stores or eBay.
