Kurt Tibbetts has represented the district of George Town in the Legislative Assembly of the Cayman Islands since 1992. With the People's Progressive Movement victory in the 2005 elections, he became Leader of Government Business.
During 2000-2001 he served as Minister for Planning, Communications and Works and as Leader of Government Business. He is a founding member of the People's Progressive Movement.
Mr. Tibbetts has owned and managed a printing business for over twenty years. Before becoming an elected representative, he participated in community service projects, distinguishing himself during his leadership of the Lions Club.
He is married to Shirley-Ann, and the couple have three children.
KurtTibbetts has always professed a fundamental belief in what he calls "the politics of inclusion" and the new arrangement in government has forced many people to take a more active interest in the affairs of their country instead of sitting back and idly hoping the right decisions will be made.
KurtTibbetts professes an understanding of the necessity for a country to evolve and mature politically and recognizes party politics as part of that development but, like everything else, he believes changes should be made carefully and responsibly with the full knowledge and consent of the people.
Tibbetts also claims that efforts were made to hold inclusive meetings but scheduling conflicts routinely arose making it impossible for all members to assemble on a regular basis.
CASTRIES, St. Lucia: Leader of Government Business of the Cayman Islands, KurtTibbetts, says his country will not abandon CARICOM and is continuing to do the best it can in recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan in September last year.
Tibbetts, who is in St Lucia for the 26th CARICOM Conference, told Caribbean Net News that not much discussion has taken place in Cayman on the question of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Tibbetts was clear on the fact that "it makes no sense for us not to retain a relationship with other Caribbean territories.
