The Kwun Tong Line (Chinese: 觀塘綫) is one of the seven lines of the MTR network in Hong Kong. It starts at Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon West and ends at Tiu Keng Leng in Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung. It is indicated in green on the MTR map. During the morning rush, Kwun Tong Line needs 27 trains on the tracks and keep 2.1 minutes train interval. History

Construction of the Kwun Tong Line was approved in November of 1975, and four years later, on 1 October 1979 service commenced on the Kwun Tong Line. Initially, service was only from Shek Kip Mei station to Kwun Tong station and each EMU only consisted of four cars. The initial system proved immensely popular, and on 31 December 1979 the system was extended to Tsim Sha Tsui station. It awarded a franchise for the construction of a mixed rail and road tunnel under the harbour. After over 10 years, in 2001 the Kwun Tong Line was extended on 27 September to North Point station. The MTRC has finished all planning on the extension from Yau Ma Tei to Whampoa. All two new stations will be underground, and both of them will have platform screen doors. PA announcements have already been recorded for the 2 new stations and the Chinese caligraphies have been designed. The good thing is that the LegCo has set forth a date to discuss and vote on the proposal, which is now scheduled for November 12th, 2005. As of now, the MTRC has already chosen the contractors that will be in charge of the extension. If the LegCo votes 'yes' in a month from now, then the MTRC would immediately commence the project. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin on December, 2005. If all goes well, then the projected completion date of the extension will be sometime around 3rd quarter, 2007.
