Encyclopedia > Kyoshi

Kyoshi is a Japanese Shogo title or rank meaning "Master Teacher" or "Master Instructor." It is the second formal teaching rank in a sequence of three, in this order, Renshi, Kyoshi, and Hanshi. This title is awarded to an instructor who has achieved the rank of 7th or 8th degree black belt (nanadan or hachidan) who has distinguished himself as an expert teacher or expert instructor.
