Kyoto has 4 mass transit railways, including the municipal subway, the Hankyu Electric Railway (2.1 miles underground), the Keihan Electric Railway (1.4 miles underground) and a 14.4 mile extension that links with the Keifuku Electric Railway.
The municipal subway is mostly underground, with the exception of one station.
Currently, Kyoto's has only 4 tram lines: two on the the Keifuku Denetsu, or the "Ranzan line" to Arayashima, opened in 1910, and two on the 21.6 km line to Otsu, opened in 1912 and run by the Eizan Electric Railway Co.
