La Aurora Airport will be going through some expansions, to provide a better service to passengers and airlines, so it will be able to accept a greater number flights and larger aircraft. A terminal is being built that will house a total of twenty-two aircraft. It is expected that the project will be completed in December 2007.

Seven new gates were opened in July equipped with jetway bridges and modern installations, also a new parking garage was opened which is capable of handling 480 vehicles. The new counters were also finished. Nine more gates will be opened in November. The airport will have two terminals: the North Terminal with 14 gates and the Central Terminal used for larger aircraft with four gates.

There are new airlines waiting government approval, some, like Spirit Airlines have already started. Also some airlines that are operating are going to expand their flights or expand to other destinations such as Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines,Iberia, United Airlines, Copa Airlines. It is expected that Taca create a hub in 2008 and begin flying to cities in South America like: Bogota, Caracas, Quito, Lima and Panama in Central America, and expanding their daily flights.
