La Guerre est finie is a 1966 film by Alain Resnais. In it, Montand stars as the aging head of the Spanish Communist Party. He must go on a mission to save an agent from being arrested by Franco's secret police. He must face his fears about growing old and the futility of his career as a professional revolutionary, and also the idea of a life with a wife and family that he was forced to give up.
