Sale to Bank of America

On April 23, 2007, an agreement was made to sell LaSalle Bank Corporation to Bank of America for $21 billion[2] which would increase Bank of America's presence in Illinois, Michigan and Indiana. The sale is expected to close in late 2007 or early 2008.[3] The sale, if approved, will catapult Bank of America from a minimal Chicago presence to the largest bank in Chicago, surpassing Chase. However RBS also wishes to purchase the company and is currently attempting to purchase the entire parent company ABN AMRO in a consortium with Santander and Fortis.[4]. A court in the Netherlands originally blocked the sale to Bank of America on the grounds that ABN AMRO shareholders were not consulted prior to the transaction.
