The LPGA is the Ladies Professional Golf Association. It was founded in 1950 with only 13 women. It is now the oldest ongoing women's professional sports organization in the United States. The LPGA is under the guidance of Commissioner Carolyn Bivens and is headquartered in Daytona Beach, FL.
LPGA TandCP members also teach and support the LPGA's various grassroots programs that are working to increase the involvement of women and youth in golf, as well as contribute to the growth of the sport overall including LPGA USGA Girls Golf, LPGA Tour Junior Clinics and the LPGA Clinics for Women.
The LPGA Founation has four main goals: to develop and maintain junior golf programs across the country; to develop and maintain scholarship programs for junior golfers; to maintain a financial assistance fund for those in the golf industry; and to conduct research and develop educational activities related to golf instruction.

Lopez won the 1978 LPGA Championship, her first major tournament victory, and was the leading money-winner on the tour for the year.
With 35 tour victories by the age of 30, Lopez won election to the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1987.
