Lake Barrington is a village located in Lake County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 4,757.

Geography

Lake Barrington is located at 42°12'47" North, 88°9'50" West (42.213324, -88.163998)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 14.4 km² (5.6 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.13% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 4,757 people, 2,039 households, and 1,455 families residing in the village. The population density is 343.9/km² (891.6/mi²). There are 2,116 housing units at an average density of 153.0/km² (396.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.41% White, 0.42% African American, 0.19% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,039 households out of which 23.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.8% are married couples living together, 3.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 25.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the village the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 17.7% from 25 to 44, 40.4% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $106,951, and the median income for a family is $122,473. Males have a median income of $0 versus $48,015 for females. The per capita income for the village is $63,158. 2.0% of the population and 1.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
