A popular tourist attraction in Lake Havasu City is London Bridge which crosses a canal that leads from Lake Havasu (on the Colorado River) to Thompson Bay. It was purchased from the city of London when the bridge was being replaced in 1968 for 2.5 million dollars. The bridge was disassembled, the stones marked, shipped to Lake Havasu City, and reassembled for another 7 million dollars. It opened again in October 1971. It has been claimed that it was purchased in the mistaken belief that it was the more grandiose Tower Bridge.

History of Lake Havasu City (2370 words)
The miracle was that he was able to build a city in that same piece of desert, especially considering there was no major highway winding its way through the would-be city, connecting it to the rest of the country, and providing a stopover for weary travelers.
Lake Havasu, named for the Mohave word “Havasu”, which means “blue water”, sparked the imagination of McCulloch, who purchased 3,500 acres of lakeside property along Pittsburgh Point, the peninsula that eventually would be transformed into “the island”.
Today Lake Havasu City is a vibrant, prosperous community that continues to attract new residents from all over the country, and the world.
