Lakshmana was the son of Dasaratha, King of Ayodhya and Sumitra. He had a brother named Shatrughna who killed Lavnasur and was the younger brother of Rama. He is known to be an incarnation of Seshnag, the snake of which Lord Vishnu resides on. The Lord of Serpents, Sheshnag was incarnated to the earth in the form of Lakshmana and during the Dwapar Yuga, he incarnated as Balrama. He married the younger sister of Sita, wife of Rama, named Urmila.
