Admiral Lam Nguon Tanh

Admiral Lam Nguon Tanh (born 1928, Sadec, Vietnam) was the Navy Chief of Staff of the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He gained asylum in the United States after the Fall of Saigon and worked as a naval architect. A devout Anti-Communist, he continues to work with Vietnamese exile groups.


Highlights of naval career

Lam Nguon Tanh graduated in 1952 at the Republic of Vietnam Naval Academy at top in his class. In 1964, he was a visiting student at the United States Naval War College, in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1973, he attended the National Defense Administration College, in Monterey, California.


He founded the Dalat Political Warfare College and was its first commander. He also served as Vice Chief of Naval Operations.


The Admiral's awards include the National Honor Medal, the highest medal of the Republic of Vietnam.


Activities in exile

In April 1975, he escaped during the Fall of Saigon, was offered political asylum and immigrated to the United States. He worked as a Naval Architect Engineer for the United States Department of the Navy doing research on surface weapons at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, Virginia.


From 1981-1985, he was Secretary General Republic of Vietnam Veterans Association.


He founded the Vietnamese Navy General Association and was the first-term Chairman.


Since 1995, he has served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs of an exiled anti-communist organization known as The Government of Free Vietnam.


In August of 1997, he founded the Free Vietnam Coalition Party and serves on the Member Central Leadership Council.
