Lancaster Mennonite School, formerly Lancaster Mennonite High School, is a private Mennonite school for grades 6 to 12 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 2000 the name was changed to reflect an expanded clientele. Since then, it has merged with three other Mennonite schools in the area: Kraybill, Locust Grove, and New Danville. History

The school was organized by Mennonite families at the opening of World War II. Because of a concern about the influence of patriotism and the call of war, the Mennonites decided to create a school centered around their beliefs of pacifism and tolerance. As it grew and merged with other districts, expectations of students have become less rigid, resulting in a more relaxed and free atmosphere. Facilities

There are four main buildings on the primary campus. One building houses gymnasiums and an auditorium as well as a fine arts center and small lobby. A two-story building provides classroom space for the middle school on the lower level and the high school on the upper level. The 1948 Graybill Dorm houses high school and some middle school students. The fourth building is the G. Parke Book Building, renovated in 2004, home to the Agriculture and Technology classrooms as well as some sciences. Fine art refers to arts that are concerned with beauty or which appealed to taste (SOED 1991). ...


A new building is being constructed on the Lancaster Mennonite School campus, with completion expected around December, 2008. It will house mostly science and math rooms.


Sports facilities include a gymnasium, a turf soccer/field hockey field, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, and are expected to include a track in the next few years. Publications

The Millstream is the school newspaper of Lancaster Mennonite School. "The Tributary" is the middle schools newpaper.


Silhouette is the magazine that publishes the creative works of students.


Laurel Wreath is the yearbook.


Drama

Lancaster Mennonite Highschool produces four plays a year. Three are student related, and one is done by faculty.


Student drama

  • Fall Play is done in the fall.
  • Winter Play is done in the winter, and generally has a smaller cast than the Fall Play.
  • Spring Musical is the school's largest scale production. It is usually directed by Mr. John Miller

Faculty drama

  • Faculty Play was first done in the Fall of 2006 debuting with "Tuesdays with Morrie". It involves a small number of faculty actors.
