The beautifully restored Baroque Renaissance/Napoleon style Landers Theatre, built in 1909, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The theater is in Springfield, Missouri. Springfield is the third largest city in Missouri. ...
The LandersTheatre was built in 1909, by John and D.J. Landers and R.W. Steward.
In 1928, the theatre became the 35th facility in the world to acquire "talkies." It continued as a movie theatre until 1970, doing double duty for a time in 1959, when the Landers was also the home of live broadcasts of FIVE STAR JUBILEE, a national NBC-TV show.
As the 21st Century approaches, the theatre is dedicated to maintaining that heritage by presenting the best of live theatre in an environment reflecting a rich past, present and future.
The one most often seen is that of a janitor who died during a fire in the theatre in the early twentieth century.
Another apparition, only seen from outside the theatre, is said to peek from a fourth floor window at passersby along the street.
Strange occurrences at the theatre include unplugged spotlights that seemingly turn on and off of their own accord, people who sense that they are being followed, taps felt on people’s shoulders by unknown entities, and apparitions glimpsed throughout the building.
