The Large Blue (Maculinea arion) is a blue butterfly. It is resident in Europe and Asia. It went extinct in the United Kingdom in 1979, but has since been reintroduced by conservationists.

In Europe, the LargeBlue still occurs in 37 countries but it has declined by some 50-80 percent in recent decades overall and is deemed stable in only seven countries.This decline is particularly severe in Northern Europe.
The female LargeBlue lays her eggs in the buds of thyme that are in the tight bud stage.
