The Larrousse-Calmels Formula One team was founded in 1987 by Didier Calmels and former racer Gérard Larrousse. It was based in Antony, in the southern suburbs of Paris. It was later renamed simply Larrousse when Calmels was arrested for shooting his wife in a domestic argument in the spring of 1989. The inaugural Formula One World Championship was won by Italian Giuseppe Farina in his Alfa Romeo in 1950, barely defeating his Argentine teammate Juan Manuel Fangio. ... In the autumn of 1991 Gerard Larrousse did a deal with Robin Herd of Fomet 1 for the construction of an F1 chassis and 65% of the team was sold to the Venturi car company.
At the end of the year Gerard Larrousse fell out with Robin Herd and cars for 1995 were not built.
Larrousse went on to reinvent the company to run sportscars but without success.

Larrousse moved to the Alpine sportscar team in1975, sharing victory at Mugello with Jean-Pierre Jabouille.
Larrousse went to work with Ligier for a year and then set up his own Formula 1 team in partnership with Didier Calmels.
The Larrousse team organised a deal for chassis with Lola Cars and entered F1 in the normally-aspirated class in 1987 (turbo engines being the other class).
