History

The college was founded in 1851 as the Auburndale Female Seminary, a two-year college for women. During the college's first semester, founder Edward Lasell died of typhoid fever and the school was renamed Lasell Female Seminary. In 1932, the college changed its name to Lasell Junior College. The most prominent academic major at Lasell College is Fashion Design. Connected Learning, which involves students in offsite projects and assignments, is a major emphasis. Through the Connected Learning program, students at Lasell often work with residents at the Lasell Village, a retirement community, created to raise additional revenues. The campus covers over 50 acres. Lasell College has over 23 different student dorms and houses on the college campus. There are 18 additional academic and non-academic buildings on the campus. The College offers a bus/shuttle system for campus travel as well as transportation to the Commuter Rail or T station (MBTA) which goes straight into the city of Boston.


Athletics

Lasell College offers basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross country, field hockey, softball, and lacrosse.
