History

Until 1806, Laupheim was a small state (about five miles in diameter) within the Holy Roman Empire. It was a Lordship (Reichsritterschaft) ruled by an Imperial Knight. Attractions

The Planetarium and Public Observatory of the town counts about 40000 visitors each year. It is run on a mostly voluntary basis by the club Volkssternwarte Laupheim e.V. (founded 1975) providing high quality astronomical education. The work of the club has been recognized by famous astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker who named the planetoid 7167 Laupheim in honour of the institution. Laupheim is home to many leading firms, including Kässbohrer, Aircabin, and Hamann Motorsports. Kässboher builds machines called PistenBully. Aircabin, a subsidiary of Airbus, builds cabins for airplanes. Hamann, one of the most respected names in automotive performance tuning, specializes in aerodynamic body kits and motor tuning for most European-made sports cars, including BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes, MINI, and Porsche.


Laupheim has also got a great football team, called FV Olympia Laupheim, which plays in the 5th flight of the German football.


Das Laupheimer Kinder- und Heimatfest

Every year there is a big historical festival named “Kinder- und Heimatfest”. It takes place in the first week of June. There are historical processions with many different groups, a fairground and other historical performances. For the youth there are many bars and pubs and for the older ones there is a beer tent.


The event starts every year in the last week of June and lasts for five days. In this time there are a lot of attractions, including a parade on the streets, a theme park, and many parties in the bars and cafès and so on.
