Dr. Rabiner retired from ATandT at the end of March 2002 and is now a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University, and the Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Information Processing (CAIP) at Rutgers.
Rabiner is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, the IEEE, Bell Laboratories, and ATandT.
Rabiner received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
This talk will analyze the ‘Speech Circle’ that enables a person to maintain a dialog with a machine using speech recognition, spoken language understanding, dialog management and spoken language generation, and finally text-to-speech synthesis, and show where significant progress has been made, and where there remain critical problems that need to be addressed and solved.
