He began his career as a member of the band Black Blood, which had a large fanbase in Dominica and the Caribbean. He has since toured across the region, and into North America. He has moved to Ottawa, and formed a band called Unity, then moved to Toronto to form the Lazo Band. The Lazo Band released "Satisfaction Guaranteed", an EP that won Lazo the Top Reggae Performer of the Year for 1993 from the Canadian Reggae Music Award. His solo work followed, including the 1995 Juno Award-nominated Something Real and Impetus. His 1995 song "Crucial" included a music video which saw wide rotation BET, CSN and was a #3 chart hit in Guyana.
