Howard Marks was the first to represent the party on the single issue of legalizingcannabis in Norwich North and South and in the Southampton Test and Neath constituencies.
The party adopted the leaf as its emblem.
The goal of the party is not to win enough seats to run the government, but only to establish the full legalization of cannabis.
In Spain the Partido Cannabis participated in the Spanish general election, 2004, by standing candidates for seats in the senate in three provinces, (Valencia, Alicante and Valladolid).
The LegaliseCannabis Alliance (LCA) was registered as a political party in March 1999.
Cannabis had been a class B substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971: it became a class C substance.
