Leshan (Simplified Chinese: 乐山; Traditional Chinese: 樂山; Pinyin: Lèshān; Wade-Giles: Le-shan) is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan province of the People's Republic of China. Leshan is on the Southwestern fringe of the Red Basin in Southern Sichuan. Leshan is about 170 km from Chengdu. Leshan Teachers' University is here. Leshan is the site of Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral. In 1996, Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area in Leshan was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
