History and Family

Born in 1962, Leslie Roberts is a well-known TV personality, primarily from his position as the anchor for Global TV's "News Hour" at 6:00 and finishing at 7:00. This segment is preceded by Global National with Kevin Newman, bumped from his 6:00 to 7:00 news slot. 1962 (MCMLXII) was a common year starting on Monday (the link is to a full 1962 calendar). ...

As a child, Roberts grew in up in a family full of journalists, stating "...it was not unusual to have both journalists and politicians at our dinner table." Roberts' great-grandfather founded a Montreal tabloid newspaper, while his father (Bill) was a morning-man for CJAD's for 20 years. Roberts' brother, Robert, is a night editor for one of Canada's major newspapers "The National Post". So, it is safe to say that the media "bug" is present in the Robert's family!

At the tender age of 18, Leslie found himself interning nat a radio newsroom, specifically covering the 1980 Quebec referendum and having the opportunity to interview such icons as Rene Levesque.

Immediately after Robert's was "freed" from school, he was immediately recruited in 1985 as a medical reporter a CTV branch in Montreal.

For a full twelve years, Roberts found himself on a variety of different segments from travel to morning talk shows.

However, in 1995 Roberts got a call from an American news company who was interested in hiring Roberts for a broadcast-related job.

In 1998, Roberts got yet another offer, this time to come back to Canada as a full-time anchor. Leslie jumped at this decision, judging by the young age of his daughter. Obviously, Leslie is a true family man, putting his daughters' well-being ahead of any of his career aspirations.

In 2000, Leslie joined Global Quebec as news-director and co-anchor of the evening news.

Present Work

In September 2001, Leslie was recruited by CanWest's Toronto division to be a co-anchor with Beverly Thomson (has since moved on, citing that the two of them were an ideal pairing for this broadcast. Leslie arrived just a week before the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.

Today, Leslie is going solo at the anchors desk. Arguably the top broadcast in Ontario, potenitally Canada, "News Hour" has been receiving great reviews amongst the Toronto media scene. Characterized by its modern-look with a modest presence, "News Hour" features Leslie Roberts along with Mike Kuss (weather), Christine Crosby (health), Jim Tatti (sports) and occasionaly Susan Hay (weather), who is known to have a great on-screen relationship with Leslie, often cited by their live jokes usually targeted towards clothing, diction choices and many other little points like such.

Lately, Leslie has dyed his hair and let it grow. This has become the butt of many jokes across the province.
