Lesser Quemoy is one of the islands of the Quemoy (Kinmen) group. It is in the Taiwan Strait, on the coast of Fukien (Fujian). Geographically it is very near to Xiamen (Amoy). Administratively the island forms the Lieyu Township of the Kinmen County of the Fukien Province of the Republic of China. The People's Republic of China claims the Kinmen County (Jinmen County in pinyin) as part of Quanzhou prefecture of its Fujian Province.
