Lesser Quemoy is one of the islands of the Quemoy (Kinmen) group. It is in the Taiwan Strait, on the coast of Fukien (Fujian). Geographically it is very near to Xiamen (Amoy). Administratively the island forms the Lieyu Township of the Kinmen County of the Fukien Province of the Republic of China. Quemoy is geographically very near Xiamen (also known as Amoy).
Because of its military situation, development on Quemoy was extremely limited and it is now a popular weekend tourist destination for Taiwanese and is known for its quiet villages and beaches.
Lieyu Township encompasses the entire LesserQuemoy Island, and is closest to Xiamen.
