Although he withdrew from public life and from meeting the sadhaks in person, Sri Aurobindo continued to instruct his students by letter, maintaining a voluminous correspondence, especially in the 1930s. Letters on Yoga is a compilation of Sri Aurobindo's letters on all areas of spiritual instruction (see Integral Yoga).
All the letters were revised by Sri Aurobindo before publication.
Regardless of whether one may think a guru's power of insight in replying to letters is supposed to be perfect or not, these three volumes are a superb introduction to Sri Aurobindo's philosophy and teachings, and include a great deal of important and very intriguing esoteric information, including the essay on the Intermediate Zone.
Integral yoga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1853 words)
Integral yoga or purna yoga (Sanskrit for full or complete yoga) refers in Sri Aurobindo's teachings to the union of all the parts of one's being with the Divine, and the transmutation of all of their jarring elements into a harmonious state of higher divine consciousness and existence.
As the title of that work indicates, his integral yoga is a yoga of synthesis, intended to harmonize the paths of karma, jnana, and bhakti yoga as described in the Bhagavad Gita.
In Integral Yoga, the goal is not only a transcendent liberation, nirvana, or moksha as in other spiritual paths, but also, in addition to that, the realisation of the Divine in the physical world as well.
