Education and Training

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Geology at University of California, Davis in 1968, and her Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies from University of California, Berkeley in 1978. She has been trained on radiation issues by a former Manhattan Project scientist and retired insider at the Livermore Lab who is an expert on radioactive fallout and rainout.[citation needed] Together with Dr. Hari Sharma, they have studied high levels of depleted uranium measured in the tissue samples of 70 residents of Basra, Iraq, who died after the Gulf War from internal exposure to depleted uranium. Ms. Moret is a critic of the US use of depleted uranium. In 2003, she testified at the International Criminal Tribunal for Afghanistan held in Japan. She was a presenter at the World Depleted Uranium Weapons Conference in Hamburg, Germany, and at the World Court of Women at the World Social Forum in Bombay, India in January 2004. She is a Contributing Editor to GLOBAL OUTLOOK, Environmental Commissioner for City of Berkeley, and a former president of the Association for Women Geoscientists. In early 2007, Ms. Moret claimed to have detected depleted uranium in the atmosphere in Hawaii, a claim that was shown on television there. Radiation experts countered that her equipment was not sensitive enough to detect uranium in those circumstances.

Moret is a geoscientist who became a whistleblower in 1991 at the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab after witnessing fraud on the Yucca Mountain Project.
MORET: It would have had to be a Chernobyl event in Britain, which they couldn’t hide because of their country’s, you know, I told you they are all monitoring, they would have been alarmed.
MORET: Well, the EPA scientists were very alarmed about it and about the nanoparticle pollution in the air, but they weren’t allowed to say anything, because of the administrator who was a coverup artist.

Leuren Moret was formerly employed at the Lawrence Berkeley Radiation Laboratory in Berkeley, and the Lawrence Livermore nuclear weapons lab.
Her testimony at the International Criminal Tribunal for Afghanistan held December 13-14, 2003, in Tokyo was largely responsible for the unanimous verdict on depleted uranium, and that the President Bush and the United States is guilty of war crimes against that country.
