Leysin American School (also called LAS or Leysin) is a for-profit, co-educational independent boarding school focusing on university preparation for grades 9-12 (as well as optional PG and 13th grades) in the Alpine resort village of Leysin, Vaud, Switzerland, Two hours east of Geneva, Vaud. The international school holds students from six continents representing all major religions and cultures of the world, with approximately one third being American passport holders. Students are offered either the American high school diploma or the International Baccalaureate, with additional options of individual AP or IB classes to suit particular interests. Throughout the year students and faculty take numerous educational and leisure trips to destinations around the globe. However, due to the ease of European travel, students often take weekend trips to other countries in Europe, promoting global awareness and intercultural growth. In the school there are lots of different cultures visiting from North and South America (United States, Brazil, Beaner Land, Venezuela), all the Europeans (Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain), Eastern and Central Asians (China, Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan), Russia, Africa. All people from all around the world live in one community. Year 1960 (MCMLX) was a leap year starting on Friday (link will display full calendar) of the Gregorian calendar. ... Private schools, or independent schools, are schools not administered by local, state, or national government, which retain the right to select their student body and are funded in whole or in part by charging their students tuition rather than with public (state) funds. ... LAS offers many different opportunities to its students. Along with a close connection with European countries, there are also mandatory trips referred to as Cultural Trips, which take students to numerous countries, including Romania, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, and many more. Leysin is an hour and a half train ride away from Geneva, and half an hour from Montreux, both commonly frequented by students on the weekends, with permission. Upperclassmen at LAS are given the privilege of drinking permission on the weekends. The discipline system is somewhat strict, as is in most all other boarding schools. Students are given a length of freedom and responsibility.

There are six different dormitories for the student of LAS. They are divided by class and gender. Beau Reveil is the senior boys' dorm. Savoy is the underclassmen boys' dorm and also holds the cafeteria, many classrooms, office of headmaster and administration, and the library of the school. Vermont is the freshman girls' dorm, and where the Travel Office and bookstore are located, Esplanade is the freshman boys, Eden is the senior girls' dorm and Beau Site are underclass girls.

Leysin is also one of the most popular skiing/snowboard resort towns in Switzerland. The school takes full advantage of the opportunities presented here, and during season (January-March) LAS requires students to spend the afternoon of Tuesday and Thursday on the mountain, either taking lessons (given by instructors from the town) or free skiing/snowboarding. Hefti Sports and Endless Ride provide skiing/snowboard equipment for purchase or rent to the students.
