At the proposal of the newly elected president of the Party, Mr Oazu Nantoi, ex-president of the SDPM was elected president of the National Council.
The party puts itself in service for the working class, peasantry and intelligentsia. According to the programme It struggles for the socialist development of Moldova with an ultimate goal to build a communist society. However, at present, the Communist Party is pressured from outside to modernize and is thus sliding more towards social democracy.
